Yellowstone National Park

We had a fantastic day today at Yellowstone National Park.  The weather was great...it started raining just after we left the park.  The park is so huge that it's almost incomprehensible (nearly 4,000 square miles).  We drove over 200 miles today.  Here are a few of the 525 pictures we took today.

The Roosevelt Arch at the North Entrance to the park.

The 45th Parallel.

"Liberty Cap" - a dormant hot springs cone.

We were surprised at how much snow was still there!

Yellowstone Falls

Bob at the "Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone".  He
sure is getting brave in his old age!

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

We were shocked at how this tree found a way
to grow in the rock...check out the roots.

Bison next to the road.

Ice on the Yellowstone River

Snow on the mountain & ice on the river.

Yellowstone Lake...it's huge!

Bob at Old Faithful.  I told him I was going to change
the sign...drop the "ser" and change the "e" to a "u".  :-)

I was so surprised to see a bird flying by Old Faithful
as it was erupting when I downloaded the pictures.  I like to call it
"A Bird's Eye View of Old Faithful Erupting".

Old Faithful blowing off steam.

Elk

Continental Divide.

Mountains

This road is the most worrisome that we traveled in
the park.  We were driving through here and saying
how surprised we were that we never saw any animals
on the roads in the park.  Then we went around the curve
you see in this picture and...

Look at what was galloping toward us!!!  :-)  There
was a poor guy on a motorcycle behind them and he
had no choice but to follow them.  We laughed about
them all the way home.  :-)

They are not the prettiest animals!
